The RNLI is a charity operating a professional 24 hour search and rescue service around the coast of the UK and Ireland. The Middleton Branch raise funds for the RNLI by holding a range of events each year organised by voluntary people who take pleasure in helping save lives at sea whilst at the same time meeting new people and having lots of fun along the way. New members are always welcome, so if you would like to get involved in any way, please contact us – we would love to hear from you.
The Branch is also looking for a Treasurer so if you enjoy balancing accounts and would like to support the branch in ensuring the figures are recorded accurately we would love to hear from you. You may already have these skills or be looking to develop them - whatever your reason we would welcome your call.
All of the volunteering opportunities will allow you to develop further, meet new people and improve your CV. This is also a great opportunity to make a real difference and help raise funds for this lifesaving charity; if you are interested you can apply online at www.rnli.org.uk/volroles or call 07557 191852 or 07500 608222 for more information.
Middleton Archaeological Society is researching the history of Bradshaw Hall
The Hall was a manor house located in the northern tip of the Alkrington Townland (now Middleton Junction) and was the centre of the Bradshaw Hall Estate which was sold at auction in 1861. Records suggest it was built in the early 1600s and demolished in about 1910. The Chadderton family occupied the Hall for most of the 17th century.
As the pictures of the rear of the Hall shows, it was a working farm in the 19th century and the society would be very interested to hear from anybody who has any stories or information on the farm or its occupants. Please contact Cliff Ivers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Middleton volunteers wanted!
Marie Curie Cancer Care want to set up a fundraising group in Middleton. They are looking for volunteers for various campaigns throughout the year, such as the Great Daffodil Appeal, Blooming Great Tea Party, Collection Tin Appeal & Christmas Collections and also to organise their own fun event such as a quiz night, a stall or fayre, an auction, a concert or a fashion show. Julie Peters is hoping to have a get together of people interested at Middleton Cricket Club but this can only be arranged if there is enough interest locally. Local fund-raising groups range in size from 3 or 4 Members to 15+ and meet once a month. If you think you can help out, contact Julie on 0161 255 2909 or email her at Julie.Peters@mariecurie.org.uk
