Musician Dies
A well known 'character about town' has passed away. Musician Darrel Ogden was a familiar face around Middleton pubs most of his life and was well known on the Middleton music scene amongst other local performers regularly playing live in pubs around the town such as the Olde Boars Head, many of whom he had worked with including the late legend Pete Cowap.
Extract from the website of fellow Musician Dave Turnbull:
A Video was made to promote the song "Torpedoes and Bullets" written by Darrel Ogden, a Middleton born musician songwriter, who fortunately for him owned his own recording studio, fortunately because Darrel had a wealth of material.
Incidently the name of Darrel's studio was 'Parish Bowman'. It was later bought by Peter Hook of New Order. Parish Bowman Studios was built and owned in 1980 by Darrel, a former member of 'The Powerhouse' and 'Perfect Circle.' Darrel was very aware of the cultural heritage he came from and he was fully comitted to providing the means to record the multitude of talent surrounding him, hence Parish Bowman Recording Studios.
Located in a vacated factory on Boarshaw estate in Middleton, this well equipped studio played host to such talent as Nazca Plain, The Chameleons, Marc Riley, The Mock Turtles, Lisa Stansfeild, 5 not 4, Kevin Seisay plus reems of local talent that formed an endless stream through the studio doors.
Darrel also needed some where to record his own wealth of material which he did over a two year period during studio down time, mostly in the twighlight hours with the help of his co-writer, co-engineer, co-producer and saxophone player Dave Turnbull, plus friends who are too many to be listed but for who's talent and musicianship Darrel and Dave remain eternally grateful.
Darrel also served behind the bars of Middleton pubs such as the Brunswick and had many friends he will be deeply missed by. He lost his fight against recent illness and passed away aged 59 in hospital on 31st March leaving behind a son, Simon. The funeral was at Boarshaw Cemetery at 11:50am on Thursday 9th April.
