KIDS WANTED!
A local club is appealing for new members. Boarshaw Amateur Boxing Club on Stannycliffe Lane has seen a decline in numbers in recent times and wants to promote its existence in order to avoid the closure of a great facility for youth of the town.
There are no end of reasons why Middleton cannot lose a facility like this. On top of giving kids somewhere to go and something to do two evenings per week in a safe environment, the club offers training which encourages self confidence and belief, discipline and values, self defence, a great release from the frustrations, tensions, boredom and even anger kids experience, not to mention fantastic exercise, all contributing to health and well being.
A club like this ticks all the boxes for what is needed for kids of today not only tackling the problem of youth nuisance in the town but teaching them social interaction, respect and giving them a focus in life, a fundamental quality needed to succeed along the road to adulthood.
And all for a very affordable £1.50 per session!
So if you feel your kids may be at a loss or even heading for trouble, why not check the club out and see if it could be for them?
It is run by ex-boxers Ben and Tony and girls are just as welcome as boys. Junior classes run by Tony cater for aged 8 upwards teaching the basics from scratch and progressing to senior level. These are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.30-8pm and take place in what has been described as 'a happy atmosphere where the kids look out for one another and help each other with smiling faces all round.'
Senior sessions are taught by Ben on the remaining weeknights once the Juniors have reached this level of standard. For more information or to join the club, contact Ben Lancaster on 653 1128.
